5 Pre-Made Healthy Snacks Made From Great Ingredients

Snacks are a necessity in your diet. They’ve gotten a bad rap over the years, because most products that call themselves snacks are made from chemicals and cheese-colored dust. They have a satisfying crunch and flavor, but they aren’t doing your body any favors.

At Maxine’s Heavenly, we believe that food should fuel your body – snacks included. Things like carrot sticks and apples are great snacks, but sometimes you just want to grab something off the shelf and go, you know?

Well, we’re here for you. Here’s a list of five pre-packaged snacks that you can feel good about eating:

Sweet: Maxine’s Heavenly

Yes, I listed us first. And yes, I may be a little biased about my love of Maxine’s Heavenly cookies. But you don’t have to take my word for it. TasteTV just listed our Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookies as a Top Healthy Snack for 2017 based on ingredients and taste.

Our cookies were made to be flavorful, and each kind are made from a healthy base of whole grain oats and flours, flaxseed, and other great ingredients. So, you can satisfy your taste buds and give your body what it needs.

When you need something sweet (which, for me, is often) look no further than Maxine’s Heavenly.

Fruity: Veggie Go’s

I ran across Veggie Go’s at a UNFI event and was blown away. They made fruit strips and bites that have one serving of fruit and veggies in every strip or pouch. My fav is the Berry, Apple+ Spinach strips, which is made from:

  • Organic Apple Puree
  • Organic Blueberry Puree
  • Organic Strawberry Puree
  • Organic Raspberry Puree
  • Organic Sweet Potato Puree
  • Organic Spinach Puree

The bites are good too, but note that they include concentrated juices, citrus pectin, cellulose, and natural flavor. If you want the healthiest option, go for the strips.

Crunchy: Half Pops

Half Pops tagline is “curiously crunchy popcorn” but it should be “crunchcrunchuuhmmmmmcrunchcrunchcrunch” I highly suggest their Black Truffle and Sea Salt flavor.

Popcorn (or in this case, half-popped popcorn) is a whole grain, which is ideal, but a lot of corn is genetically modified. No so with Half Pops. Their main ingredient is non-GMO popcorn. The sea salt seasoning is made with whey, so vegans should avoid this product, but it is not a main ingredient.

If you’re craving something salty and crunchy, Half Pops is where it’s at.

Savory: Jilz Gluten Free

All other crackers should just throw in the towel. Jillz is so good.

Jill went on mission to “find the perfect balance of “flavor, crisp and crunch” with few and simple ingredients” when she discovered her husband was gluten intolerant. The result is a delicious cracker that is vegan, gluten free, paleo. My favorite, the Tuscan, is made of:

  • organic almond flour
  • organic apple cider vinegar
  • organic chia seeds
  • organic flax seeds
  • 0rganic sesame seeds
  • organic sunflower seed flour
  • organic tapioca flour
  • sea salt, Italian herbs, tomato flecks, lemon peel, rosemary oil.

It doesn’t get much better than that. Unless of course you smother a Jillz cracker with…

Creamy: Blöde Kuh

Blode Kuh, pronounced BLUE-deh KOO, makes spreadable cultured cashew cheeses that are gluten free, vegan, soy free, and dairy free.

As for their ingredients, “We take great care in choosing the ingredients. Due to the legality of a particularly nasty pesticide, Endosulfan, in many cashew-producing countries, we have an unyielding commitment to using only organic cashews for our base. We also believe that food tastes better whenever you know where it’s coming from, so we always source naturally, organically and locally whenever possible.”

I once ate an entire tub of their Truffle Fluff with some Jillz crackers. #TrueStory

Honorable Mention: Kirk’s and Brew Dr. Kombucha

If you’re looking for something to wash your snack down with, I suggest a Raspberry Kirk’s Kombucha or a Mint Lemonade Kombucha by Brew Dr. I’m not sure if kombucha counts as a snack, which is why these two are living in the honorable mention section. But they are SO GOOD. Brew Dr. uses high quality teas and Kirk’s uses a 5x filtration process and macerates real fruit for their second fermentation.

Snack well, friends!
