Celebrate Pride with a workout mix featuring LGBT artists

Maxine’s Heavenly is proud to have LGBT people in our staff and leadership, and want to wish you and yours a happy Pride!

June was chosen as Pride month in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots, which occurred in New York City, on the morning of June 28, 1969. This riot and related protests “were the watershed moment in modern LGBT rights movement and the impetus for organizing LGBT pride marches on a much larger public scale.

As you may know, our motto is Rethink How You Treat. For the most part, we’re talking about rethinking how you treat your body and the food you put in it. But for us, it really extends beyond that. We want you to rethink how you treat anything that is causing you to be unhealthy in mind, body, or spirit. That can mean yourself, life, aging…and other people.

Fortunately, many people have done a lot of rethinking around the way the LGBT community is treated. In the last few years, we’ve seen great progress, like the legalization of gay marriage. But there is still much work to do. And so, each June, we celebrate our history, our progress, and the fight ahead.

While some of us at Maxine’s are a part of the LGBT community, many of us also belong to another community…of musicians! We thought a fun way to say happy Pride and stay true to our mission and ourselves was to create a workout mix tape featuring LGBT artists. We took special care to find some heart-pumping (and warm up/cool down) songs that went beyond stereotypical club music.

Enjoy!
